Get to know the Contreras reservoir, a paradise between Valencia and Cuenca.
If you want to enjoy a few days of calm and nature, we suggest you to visit the beautiful surroundings of Kikopark Rural and enjoy the magnificent Contreras reservoir, a small but worth visiting paradise between Valencia and Cuenca.
The Contreras reservoir, with its more than 2,700 hectares, supplies water to the Júcar-Turia canal, which supplies drinking water to the city of Valencia. It is located on the Cabriel River, the natural boundary between the provinces of Valencia and Cuenca. Despite what it may seem, its waters are clear and turquoise, fresh and clean. Therefore, it is an ideal place to practice water sports such as paddle SUP or canoeing, being especially recommended for beginners and families with children.
In addition, this area offers multiple hiking trails with which to get into the Natural Park of Hoces del Cabriel. From Kikopark Rural there are trekking routes of different types and difficulties. If you are looking for easy trails to enjoy with children, there are several paths that go down to the reservoir, where you can take a relaxing dip before returning to the campsite. For ornithology lovers, there are also routes with which to learn about the fauna of the area, with explanatory signs and very well signposted.
From the neighboring town of Villargordo del Cabriel, you can also reach, this time by car, the beginning of other routes with which to enter the Natural Park of Hoces del Cabriel.
You must visit the ‘cuchillos’, the most characteristic rock formations of the park; and, of course, the River Cabriel, where you can also go rafting with Kikopark
For all audiences and tastes, and throughout the year, the reservoir is one of those places worth visiting. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Contreras reservoir, this small paradise between Valencia and Cuenca. But be careful, you probably won’t want to go back to the city afterwards!
